OKAY SO. I haven't updated here since April, and I doubt I'll be doing much more updating in the future, even though I check my flist near-religiously. Talking extensively about myself on here just doesn't feel terribly comfortable anymore (not anyone's fault, really! it's a me-thing, and the 6+ years of history this journal has accrued) and letting it just sit and languish on an old book meme is weird.

I'm still other places, though!

LJ is suspending accounts, not sure why, a lot of them (at least that are noticed right now) are in LJRP. I've got a mod post up in Taxon that I'll be keeping updated as I find more stuff out.

The release candidate version of 4.0 is out, so updates will start rolling out soon.

I am an idiot, and in an attempt to forestall huge disappointment and horror, I decide "hey I'll install the portable version of 4.0 and fiddle it ahead of time."

There are so many issues I cannot even.

  1. LJLogin doesn't work with the usual hack in admin:console (changing the default extension check to 3.6 from 4.0) and I'm so very not knowledgeable enough to try to do actual coding. One of the main problems with compatibility, I think, is the lack of a statusbar (though now there's an add on bar? and a statusbar4ever add on that reinstates the usual statusbar IDK IDK) for it to sit in, but again. Editing is outside the realm of possibility on my end. I doubt I'll be updating "for reals" until this updates.

  2. HATE THE GUI HATE IT WITH THE PASSION OF A MILLION SUNS. The nav bar is so huge I can't stand it, and I'm not sure yet if there are even themes that will work with it that are compact enough to suit my "one line fifteen pixels high for bookmarks, address, search, and menu" needs.

Also, I have vista, but I don't like (or even properly have since this is vista home basic rather than the complete version) the aero theme with the transparency shit. It eats RAM and is useless, so I use basic which utterly forestalls any and all prettification with personas as I think they intended them. In their attempt to integrate the program with the vista/7 OS, they've managed to make it have even more cumbersome.

  3. Relatively fast at first glance, but this is sans any add ons. I'm gonna go back and start installations now, then come back and edit a list in with notes about which ones don't work and possible substitutes.

  4. Basically, augh.

...in other news we had Jack in the Box today and my chicken strip totally looked like a penis but I was too hungry to take a picture before I ate it.

ETA: ADD-ONSCollapse )

I think I'm getting the hang of these things now. It's like riding a bike (through a vast ocean of memes and gifs).

Okay so, instead of talking about anything irl like attempts at church (not going this year unless it's to Oak Hills; Max Lucado > Pastor "Obama is just like King Herod" Statt, kthx) or gifts I can't buy or wtfever.

Instead I'm going to ramble about TV because I can and everything is on winter break.

shoooowsCollapse )

I need a sci-fi show that has science or superpowers or wacky islands or something that doesn't involve vampires. I'm jonesing now that LOST is well and truly over forever, and I cannot put up with some of the crap SyFy is producing for original programming. No Ordinary Family was an exercise in "holy fuck this is some straight up whitebread bullshit." The Cape does not look as promising as Glau stans may think. (An investigative blogger are you for real? Are you playing with tropes or playing into them because you honestly don't know any better?) Chuck is dead to me, as charming as Zach Levi is he cannot carry the dead weight of the plot on his lonesome. Doctor Who only leaves me the super Christmasy Christmas Special to hang my hat on until series 6.

SERIOUSLY WHAT ELSE IS THERE I NEED SOMETHING WITH LASERS OR SPANDEX TIME TRAVEL OR SOMETHING HELP ME
